Abrasive blasting operations have the potential to create certain health hazards. They often facilitate high noise levels and produce copious amounts of dust. Underlying substrates and coatings are potential sources of dangerous substances, such as lead paint or silica. These materials can create a dangerous operating environment and employers have a responsibility to protect workers from such toxic substances. Our products can help you to conduct sandblasting operations safely.

Worker Training and Hazard Communication

Creating a safe abrasive blasting environment begins with disseminating information.

Training and Support

Workers must be educated about the associated health and safety hazards of abrasive blasting materials. They also should receive training on safe work practices and how to properly use the blasting equipment. Comprehensive training should also cover personal protective equipment and respirators.

Safety Data Sheets

Manufacturers must provide information that defines the health hazards posed by their blasting materials. Safety data sheets (SDS) are mandated under OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200). When using abrasive blasting material, be sure to read the manufacturer’s SDS to be fully informed about the health hazards that are associated with it. These SDS can be found on the Safety Data Sheets page of our website.
